King Charles Calls for Understanding Muslims – Critics Slam Hypocrisy

King Charles Calls for ‘Understanding Muslims’ – Hypocrisy or Sincerity?

Date: July 17

Location: Oxford University

🛑 Critics accuse the West of hypocrisy – delivering speeches on ‘understanding Muslims’ while enabling their oppression globally.

King Charles III has stated that in this fragile global context, there is a greater need to respect and understand Islam. He made these comments during a speech at Oxford University on Thursday.

The event marked the 40th anniversary of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, which the King has patronised since its founding in 1985. In 1993, then as Prince Charles, he delivered a speech at the same centre that sparked debate over Western misconceptions about Islam.

“Its commitment to impartial research and international cooperation, based on dialogue, deep understanding, and mutual respect, is needed now more than ever in today’s world,” King Charles said.

⚠️ Sharp Criticism from the Muslim World

Despite his words, strong criticism erupted globally, questioning the relevance of such statements:

  • 🔴 If respect truly existed, would Palestinians be bombed daily under Western-backed regimes?
  • 🔴 If understanding mattered, would millions die under bombs in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen?
  • 🔴 If mutual respect was real, would Europe pass laws marginalising Muslim identity and beliefs?

The event was attended by religious leaders, including Bishop Stephen Croft of Oxford and Nigeria’s spiritual Muslim leader Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III. The King praised those promoting religious understanding and tolerance.

“It goes without saying how deeply reassured I am to see the significant role this Centre continues to play in such globally important endeavours,” he said.

🏛️ New Wing Inaugurated

King Charles also inaugurated a new wing at the Centre named in his honour: ‘King Charles III Wing’.

🔍 Director’s Comment

Dr. Farhan Nizami, Director of the Centre, said:

“As head of the Church of England, the King’s effort to understand others from within his own religious tradition forms a strong foundation for interfaith relations. Muslims too should engage with people of other faiths from their religious values.”
🛑 Analysts warn: “While lectures echo in Oxford’s halls, Muslim blood continues to stain deserts, streets, and refugee camps. Words of understanding without action remain mere hypocrisy.”

💬 What do you think – is this real respect, or just diplomatic hypocrisy polished in royal words?
